Charles E. Driscoll, M.D., A.B.F.M. - Director, Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia. A graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine, Dr. Driscoll completed his residency in Muncie, Indiana. His academic career spans several decades starting in 1976 at the University of Iowa where he became head of the department of family medicine and achieved the rank of full professor in 1987. In 1994 Dr. Driscoll joined a private practice in Iowa City, Iowa, while continuing to be an active teacher. He joined the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency as its director in the fall of 1999. Dr. Driscoll's outstanding teaching style earned him several awards over the years. He also has led numerous seminars and teaching labs on a broad range of topics including human sexuality, hospice and palliative care, clinical procedures in family medicine and patient education. He is the editor-in-chief of Resident Staff Physician. An active member of AAFP, Dr. Driscoll has served on the National Board of Directors. He currently serves on the Board of the RRC as its chair.

Dean G. Gianakos, M.D., A.B.I.M. - Associate Director, Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia, Director of Internal Medicine & Critical Care Education. Dr. Gianakos graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1984. He completed his residency at Georgetown University and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Washington. In 1994, after three years of private practice in Lynchburg, he joined the faculty as director of internal medicine and critical care education. He further served as acting director of the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency in 1998-1999. Dr. Gianakos has a strong interest in clinical ethics which he has taught. He has published many articles on the patient-physician relationship. He is a member of the editorial board of Patient Care. Dr. Gianakos is also medical director of the Free Clinic of Central Virginia.

William C. Crow, Jr., M.D., A.B.F.M., Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia, Director of Scholarly Activities. Dr. Crow joined the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency faculty in June of 1995. He is a 1971 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his residency at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He practiced and taught in the US Army at Fort Bragg and Womack Army Hospitals. Then he joined the department of Family Medicine at Lewis-Gale Clinic in Salem, VA, practicing full-time at its satellite in Fincastle for 16 years. He brings to the residency years of experience as a "country doc" and a strong interest in oncology. He was three times the recipient of the "Spirit of Family Practice" Award.

David Gregory, M.D., A.B.F.M., Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia, Director of Pediatric Education. Dr. Gregory is a 1994 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his residency in 1997 at the Eglin AFB Family Practice Program where he served as chief resident. In 1998 he completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He joined the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency in July of 2001 after spending four years as a staff physician and faculty at the Offbutt AFB in Nebraska. In the military he distinguished himself and received an Air Force commendation medal. He is certified as instructor in A.C.L.S. and acts as P.A.L.S, A.L.S.O and N.R.P. course director. In 2003 he completed the National Institute for Program Directors Development. Dr. Gregory is coordinator of the pediatric curriculum.

Therese M. Namenek, D.P.P., Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia, Director of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health Curriculum. Dr. Namenek is a clinical psychologist. She graduated from the University of Lyon, France, in 1967 and came to the United States on a post-graduate Fulbright Scholarship. She has worked as a clinician for over 30 years and for 20 years divided her time between clinical work as director of Randolph-Macon Woman's College Counseling Center and residency teaching. She has been associated with the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency since it opened its doors in July of 1975 and joined the faculty full-time in 1999.

Patricia A. Pletke, M.D., A.B.F.M., Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia, Director of Geriatric Education. Dr. Pletke graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1979, and is a 1982 graduate of the Lynchburg Family Practice Residency, where she remained as faculty since graduation. She teaches gynecology and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in geriatrics. A talented teacher, she is the recipient of several Preceptor's awards. She coordinates the geriatric curriculum. Dr. Pletke is president elect on the board of directors of the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine and a representative to the Virginia Medical Society. She is also chairperson of the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine Access to Care Committee.

Brenda L. Stokes, M.D., A.B.F.M., Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia, Director of Maternal Care Curriculum. Dr. Stokes is a 1996 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency at the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency where she served as chief resident. She completed a one year fellowship in obstetrics in Harrisburg, PA, before returning to Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency in August of 2000 as full-time faculty member and coordinator of maternity care. She completed the National Institute for Program Directors Development. She is a PALS and ALSO instructor. She is an item writer for the American Board of Family Medicine. She is involved in a local obesity task force and a member of the Health Advisory Board for the Lynchburg City Schools

Alexander M. Wilgus, MD, ABFM, FAAFP, Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, Director of Patient Care. Dr. Wilgus graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980 with a bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, and from Georgia Institute of Technology with a master of science degree in electrical engineering before attending medical school. A 1993 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Dr. Wilgus completed his residency in 1996 in Lynchburg where he served as chief resident. Following his residency, he joined a group practice in Bedford, Va, where he was director of the hospice and vice-chair of the ethics committee. In the summer of 1999, Dr. Wilgus returned to the residency as a full-time member of the faculty. He has a strong interest in information mastery and completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of Virginia.

George C. Wortley IV, M.D., A.B.F.M, Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia, Medical Director of the Big Island Family Medicine Center. Dr. Wortley is a 1977 graduate of the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center. He completed his internship and residency at Latrobe Area Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Wortley was in private practice in Alfred, NY, for seven years, and in Bedford VA, for two years. He joined the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency in 1989, bringing with him nine years of private practice experience in rural family medicine including obstetrics. He earned a Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine and has extensive experience as a team physician and medical director of major sports events. He is medical examiner and medical director for several local lifesaving crews.

Terry J. Thompson, M.D., A.B.F.M., Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, University of Virginia, Assistant Director of Medical Student Programs. Dr. Thompson is a 2001 graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency in 2004. He returned to Upstate New York and joined a private practice in Penn Yan, NY, until his return to Lynchburg as a full-time faculty member. Prior to his medical education, Dr. Thompson had 20 years of experience with Eastman Kodak, and received a Bachelor degree in computer sciences from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Stacey A. Hinderliter, MD, FAAP, Pediatric Faculty. Dr. Hinderliter is a 1983 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, in Philadelphia. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Children's Hospital National Medical Center in Washington, DC and a fellowship in Neonatology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh. until her move to Lynchburg in 1992. She has worked at the Lynchburg Health Department since 1994 and has been serving as preceptor for Lynchburg Family Medicine residents on a part time basis. In the fall of 2006, she accepted a full-time faculty position at the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency. Dr. Hinderliter has a longstanding interest and significant experience in medical education as she previously held clinical appointments at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Duquesne University. She is very involved in the community as a leader and strong advocate for children and families.

Stephanie S. Puckett, Pharm.D., BCPS, Clinical Assistant Professor, Medical College of Virginia, School of Pharmacy. Dr. Puckett earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 1991 and her doctorate degree in 2000 from the School of Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia, Richmond. She is board certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. Prior to earning her doctorate she worked as a Patient Care Pharmacists at INOVA/Fairfax Hospital, as Staff Pharmacist at Johnson-Willis Hospital in Richmond, VA, and as Staff Pharmacist at Centra Health where she remains in the position of Pharmacy Clinical Specialist/Coordinator. Dr. Puckett joined the residency in the fall of 2007
