Health Career Camp
What is Health Career Camp?
Centra’s summer Health Career Camp I provides a week of mentored experience for 20-24 rising high school juniors interested in exploring the exciting world of Health Care Careers. Students have an opportunity to explore the various facets of Health Care at

- Community First Responders: EMT/ Paramedics and Flight Services
- Emergency Department
- Forensic Nursing
- Geriatric Activity Therapies
- Home Health/Palliative Care Nursing
- Hospice Care

- Medical Ethics/Pastoral Care
- Medical Laboratory and Pathology
- Neurology
- Nursing
- Nutrition Services
- Oncology
- Surgical Services
- Orthopedics
- Outpatient Cancer Care
- Pharmacy
- Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy
- Pulmonary

Applicant Requirements:
- Must be a current sophomore for school year 2011-2012 and a rising high school junior for fall 2012.
- Must have a true interest in a career in health care.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from facilities each day for the duration of the camp.
- Must complete the application found at this website by March 19, 2012, and include two essays as explained on the application.
- Must have parental permission for a TB Skin Test and to attend the camp, found on the application.
- Must have two academic references (forms found on the application):
• One from a high school guidance counselor.
• One from a science or math teacher. - Must complete an interview with the Centra Workforce Development Department (to be scheduled in April after we receive your application).
2012 Program Specifics:
- Dates: June 18-22, 2012
- Time: 8:30 – 4:00 p.m.
- Cost: Free to qualified applicants
- Limited to 24 participants

Please read before completing the application.
*****All applications and recommendations must be received no later than 5:00 p.m., March 19, 2012.

Download the application to your computer to complete, or print and complete it manually. Fill out page one completely.

On separate pages of paper, please answer completely both essay questions found on bottom of page one of the application. Please remember that the quality of your answers is important as well as neatness, grammar and spelling.

Have parents or guardians complete and sign the parental permission for both TB Skin Testing and permission to attend camp found on page 2 of the application.

Have 2 recommendations completed by March 19. One must be by your high school counselor. The other must be either a math or science teacher. You may do this one of three ways.
- Email your counselor and teacher the link to the application.
- Download the application and email it to them as an attachment.
- Print the recommendations off and have then complete by hand.
We prefer the recommendations be faxed or mailed to us directly from them, but they may give them to you in a sealed envelope to attach with your application. The envelopes should not be opened by you or your parents.

Interviews will be scheduled for April, 2012. We will have late afternoon and weekend times available.

Notification of selections will be made by May 21, 2012. Acceptance letters with required paper work will be mailed by that date.

There will be a camp waiting list in case of a cancellation by an accepted participant.
