Child psychiatrist joins Centra Health's mental health teamKara Mayer Rooney, M.D., has joined Centra Health's Piedmont Psychiatric Center in the practice of child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr. Rooney received her medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, Calif., in 1993. She trained in general adult psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina where she also completed her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry in 2001. She has served as staff psychiatrist at several mental health centers in South Carolina, most recently at Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health in Charleston. She also owned and managed two private practice psychiatry offices in the Charleston area.
Dr. Rooney's areas of interest include mood and anxiety disorders, behavioral disorders and ADHD.
