Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
November 16, 2010 — Tab O'Neal speaks with Dr. Jeremy Hardison from Lynchburg Pulmonary Associates about COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Centra One Helicopter

Mended Little Hearts
August 3, 2010 — Laura Morrison, Mended Little Hearts Coordinator, shares the story of how her daughter had open heart surgery at two weeks old due to congenital heart disease. Dr. Mark Townsend, Cardiologist, talks about congenital heart disease and the history of the disease. The program raises awareness about the risks and myths about congenital heart disease by educating those at risk or those who have the disease.
Mended Hearts
July 27, 2010 — Tab O'Neal speaks with Laurence Bryant, a volunteer with Mended Hearts, about the mission and purpose of the Mended Hearts program. The program inspires and encourages those who have gone through heart surgeries. It's not easy to encounter heart problems alone. Volunteers are all those who have had a heart surgery or a heart issue and can better relate to the members.
Bridges Treatment Center
July 20, 2010 — Tab O'Neal speaks with Jerry Padgett of Bridges Treatment Center about the programs they offer. Bridges is a residential treatment center that treats boys and girls ages 6-17 with a wide range of emotional and behavioral difficulties. Children are referred through social services or the schools and often go to live at the facility. The staff is highly trained and brings their hearts to the table every day.
Assisted Living at the Summit
July 13, 2010 — Ken Burger, the Director of The Summit Assisted Living, speaks with Tab O'Neal about assisted living. Assisted living is different from a nursing home in that the individual lives on their own in their private apartment with a community. Residents can move in their own belongings into their living space to make it their own. Assisted living allows the individual to maintain independence and integrity while receiving the assistance and care that they need while being a part of a community.
Pediatric Asthma
July 6, 2010 — Tab O'Neal talks with Dr. Stacey Hinderliter, a pediatrician, about asthma in children, which can be different from asthma in adults. Triggers, such as colds and running during play, can cause an asthma attack to happen. Medicines can help control the asthma to help the child lead a normal life.
Safe Sitter
June 15, 2010 — Tab O'Neal talks with Deanna Barnett about the Safe Sitter program. This program offers training and certification to girls and boys from ages 11-14 years old who are interested in babysitting. VA Baptist School of Nursing
May 25, 2010 — Tab O'Neal talks with Dianne Nash and Kim Price, both alumni from the VA Baptist School of Nursing, about the history of the school, programs offered, and their cookbook that alumni put together with recipes they have collected over the years. Their cookbook is on sale to benefit Meals on Wheels, the Free Clinic of Central Virginia, and the VA Baptist Nursing Museum.
Impact of Diabetes
May 18, 2010 — Tab O'Neal talks with Sylvia Denton, a Centra Diabetes Educator, about how diabetes affects the extremities of the human body. Diabetes can lead to poor blood flow to the extremities causing nerve damage, and eventually, the inability to feel every day sensations such as hot, cold, and pain.
Chronic Pain
May 11, 2010 — Tab O'Neal speaks with Lisa Moore, a nurse in the Pain Management Center, about managing chronic pain. Causes of chronic pain can be diseases or unsuccessful surgeries. Lisa uses facial expressions to gauge the level of pain the patient is experiencing. Treatment depends on what the patient is feeling and what they have tried in the past.Diabetes
April 27, 2010 — Tab O'Neal speaks with Sylvia Denton, a Diabetes Educator, about the alarming number of people with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Lifestyle is the main prevention for diabetes. By living a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and exercise, most cases of diabetes can be avoided.
Pain Management
March 30, 2010 — Tab O'Neal discusses pain management with Lisa Moore, a registered nurse from Lynchburg's Pain Center. The Pain Center helps patients manage and control chronic pain. New technology provides those with chronic pain a way to manage it by controlling the pain nerves located in the spine.
Signs and Symptoms of a Heart Attack
February 22, 2010 — Tab O'Neal talks with Cardiologist, Dr. O'Brien, about what you should be looking for; the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Feeling chest pain is not the only sign of a heart attack. Other symptoms may include, sweating, nausea, and shortness of breath. The key is to seek help immediately, since time is muscle.
Congenital Heart Disease
February 9, 2010 — Tab O' Neal speaks with Cardiologist Dr. Mark Townsend of the Cardiovascular Group in Lynchburg about congenital heart disease, what it is, what causes it and how it's detected. Pediatricians evaluate children for early detection with each visit to prevent complications later in life.
Women and Heart Disease
February 2, 2010 — Tab O'Neal talks with Allison Brooks, a Nurse Practitioner, about how the symptoms of a heart attack may be different in women than in men. Certain risk factors such as weight levels, smoking, and exercise are all things to take into consideration. Factors can be monitored and changed to prevent heart disease.

January 19, 2010 — Tab O'Neal speaks with Dr. Judith Perrotto, Medical Director of Centra's Breast Imaging Department, about screening and early detection and its importance. The 'Mammo-Van' frequently travels to different locations providing mammograms to women without the trip to the hospital.
Cardiac Arrest
January 5, 2010 — Cindi Cole and Johanna Derrenbacker from Centra's Cardiac CATH lab talk about the signs and symptoms of a cardiac arrest and how Centra quickly assists with patients in order to save lives. New technology enables the doctors and nurses to work quickly and efficiently even before the patient reaches the hospital. Also covered are way to prevent heart attacks by simple check ups and routines.
