We helped mothers deliver more than 2,400 babies last year at The Birth Center located at Virginia Baptist Hospital. For more information, please call (434) 947-4649.  Click here for information on family focused classes, including lamaze and infant care classes.

What to do before you get here
When you first visit your obstetrician, he or she will provide you with information about your pregnancy, including a form to pre-register for hospital admission. We recommend that you fill out this form promptly and mail it to us. Once we receive your information, we will enter it into the system. When you are ready to have your baby and you arrive at the hospital, all you will need to provide us with is your name. If you do not pre-register, you will have to fill out this admissions information when you arrive.

When your water breaks or you feel like you are in labor, call your physician immediately.

Where to go
The Birth Center is located at Virginia Baptist Hospital. The entrance is on Oak Lane, with easy, accessible parking.

What to expect
Upon arrival, you will be admitted into the hospital and taken to a labor, delivery, and recovery room (LDR). Our LDRs are spacious and immaculately decorated with hardwood floors, rocking chairs, TV, VCR, and whirlpool tubs for labor.

All aspects of your birth experience will take place in this room. Once you have delivered your baby, you will be moved to a private room in our Mother/Baby Unit, where you will recover until discharged by your physician. For your comfort, the rooms in the Mother-Baby Unit are decorated similarly to the LDRs.

Visitor Information
We understand that family and friends are eager to meet your new baby, so visitors are welcome in your room. We do ask that siblings be accompanied by an adult at all times. Of course, we understand your need for privacy and rest, so if you would rather not have any visitors, just let your nurse know. She will make sure you are not disturbed.

Financial Billing Arrangements
You should discuss maternity coverage with your employer or private insurance carrier to determine your insurance coverage. We accept personal checks, many types of insurance, and VISA, Mastercard and Discover. For questions regarding your Virginia Baptist Hospital bill, please call Centra Health at (434) 947-3777.

Physician Billing
Your hospital bill includes all hospital charges only. Physicians' professional services are billed separately. You will receive separate bills from an anesthesiologist, obstetrician, and other professionals needed during your visit.
