Centra College COVID-19 CARES Act

Using funds provided by the federal government through the CARES Act, Centra College provided students who were otherwise eligible for Title IV funds during the spring 2020 semester, the opportunity to apply for CARES Act funds. Centra College required an application to be filled out by the student indicating the acknowledgement of financial expenses due to the disruption of campus operations because of the coronavirus. All eligible campus-based students who filled out the application received $531.43 in federal relief funds.

In accordance with federal guidelines, Centra College acknowledges the following:

  • Centra College signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students.
  • Centra College received $114,790.00 from the department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  • The College has distributed $114,790.00 of emergency financial aid grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of February 1, 2021.
  • 216 students received an emergency financial aid grant.
  • Centra College had 255 students in Spring 2020 eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.


*Centra has continued to pay all of its employees and contractors during the coronavirus outbreak period, despite disruptions and closures to the greatest extent practicable in accordance with Section 18006 of the CARES Act.
