Centra College COVID-19 HEERF Funding

In accordance with federal guidelines, Centra College acknowledges the following:

  • Centra College signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students.
  • Centra College received $114,790.00 in CARES Act funding from the department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  • The College distributed $114,788.88 of emergency financial aid grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of October 1, 2021.
  • Centra College received an additional $654,422 in funding under Section 314 of the CRRSA Act (HEERF II) and Section 2003 of the ARP Act (HEERF III) for emergency financial aid grants to students.
  • The College has distributed a total of $769,216.88 of HEERF I, II, and III emergency financial aid grants to students as of January 13, 2022.
  • Centra College received $1,140,658 from the department pursuant to the institution's Certification and Agreement [for] COVID-19 Institution Education Expense Relief.
  • Centra has continued to pay all its employees and contractors during the coronavirus outbreak period, despite disruptions and closures to the greatest extent practicable in accordance with Section 18006 of the CARES Act.

CARES Act (HEERF I) Funding Report

Using funds provided by the federal government through the CARES Act, Centra College provided students who were otherwise eligible for Title IV funds during the Spring 2020 semester, the opportunity to apply for CARES Act funds. Centra College required an application to be filled out by the student indicating the acknowledgement of financial expenses due to the disruption of campus operations because of the coronavirus. Centra College had 255 students in Spring 2020 who were eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and a total of 216 students received an emergency financial aid grant. All eligible campus-based students who filled out the application received $531.43 in federal relief funds.

CRRSA Act (HEERF II) and ARP Act (HEERF III) Funding Report

Using funds provided by the federal government through the CRRSA Act and ARP Act, Centra College provided students who met funding qualifications during the Fall 2021 semester with the opportunity to acknowledge and accept or decline funding. The acknowledgement form was emailed to 311 students on 12/13/21 with a deadline of 12/20/21.  Reminder emails were sent out every other day until the deadline. The deadline was subsequently extended to 12/24/21 with reminder emails sent every other day until the extended deadline. A total of 275 students completed the acknowledgement form and 272 students were awarded funding.  Students were notified of funding available for pickup on 1/13/2022. Amounts for each student were prioritized according to need, per funding guidelines, using the EFC from the 2021-2022 FAFSA. Funds were awarded using the following criteria:  

Students with an EFC of 0-2499 received $2,735.

Students with an EFC of 2500-5799 received $2,385.

Students with an EFC of 5800 or more and students with no EFC on file received $2,036.
