K-12 Programs
The Great Hospital Adventure
This program is a way for students grades K-2 to explore health careers and health behavior. It is a multi-media program using live puppets, DVD, activity pages and interactive questions and answer sessions in a classroom setting.
Medical Career Camp
This camp is for rising 7, 8, and 9th graders. Students have an opportunity to explore the various facets of healthcare by participating in hands-on activities developed by healthcare professionals at Centra, coupled with learning the connection with math and science skills.
Health Careers Camp
This camp is for rising high-school juniors. Students have the opportunity to explore the various facets of Healthcare by participating in hands-on activities developed by the healthcare professionals at Centra, while visiting and observing various departments and careers of interest.
STEM Academy Internships
These internships are offered to high school seniors interested in a medical or health related career. These students participate in department and physician rotations at LGH one day a week for 16 weeks. Students are required to complete a brief presentation on their experience and present it to their fellow interns and mentors.
Health Career Days
This program offers an opportunity for middle school students to explore the exciting world of health and medical careers. Through age-appropriate dynamic learning experiences and activities, middle school students will be exposed to various medical specialties and departments at Centra.
Central Virginia Governors School Internships
These internships are offered to 25 Central Virginia Governor’s School juniors and seniors each year. Through the first 6 weeks, students attend presentations by physicians and medical professionals. Through the second 6 weeks, students shadow a physician or medical professional of their choice. These students are required to present a 5-minute powerpoint presentation about their experience to their fellow interns and mentors.
