FAQ Central Virginia Imaging

About your appointment

There are several types of diagnostic imaging tests, from CT scans to x-rays to MRIs, but the basic steps for a procedure are generally the same from start to finish.

Exam Preparation

This step is intended to prep the patient prior to the actual exam. It may require a number of additional steps before the actual exam, depending on the exact test you’re undergoing, and what part of the body is being examined. For example, you might be asked to ingest certain liquids to help highlight specific areas during the imaging test or be asked to avoid eating or drinking anything other than water ahead of your exam. You may be asked to bring prior test results to your exam. Regardless of the preparation for your exam, rest assured that Central Virginia Imaging will make sure that you understand what you need to do in preparation for your particular exam. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Your Actual Image

Exam During every exam, our caring and professional staff will provide clear instructions about the process for your exam so that you understand what you need to do for the best result.

In general:

  • Remain calm and relaxed
  • Remain as still as possible unless you are instructed to move
  • Pay close attention to the instructions given throughout the exam
  • Ask questions if you’re not certain about what you are asked to do.

The quality of the images from an exam is partly dependent on how closely you follow the instructions given, and how still you remained during the exam. If you are feeling anxious, please express your concerns to the Technologist performing the exam so they are aware of how you are feeling and are able to work with you to get the best images possible.

Your Diagnosis

After our Technologist performs a study of your images, a dictated report is made available to your physician. Based on the interpretation and results of the imaging, your doctor will then provide you with a diagnosis and will discuss any treatment, if needed.
