Great Hospital Adventure

The Great Hospital Adventure is a health career exploration and health behavior program created and copyrighted by the NW Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center. Centra purchased the program for use in promoting interest in Health Careers in elementary school students 2009. To date, over 2500 students in Region 2000 have been exposed to the program.

Age group: Ages five through seven (K through second grade)
Time: 40 minute classroom presentation
Materials/format: Multi-media with live puppet show, DVD, worksheet, and interactive question and answer session.
Puppets: The Health Career Puppet Bunch - 11 puppets matched with real-life counterparts in a health care profession. (Emergency Medical Technician, Nurse, Physician, Radiology Technician, Physical Therapist, Respiratory Therapist, Medical Laboratory Technologist, Pharmacist and Dentist)
Diversity: Emphasizes non-traditional and multicultural roles

Program Objectives:

  • Increase awareness level of early learners (ages 5-7) in medical career opportunities
  • Understand the non-traditional and multi-cultural roles in health and transfer from the make-believe experience (puppet show) to the real-life professional role models in the community.
  • Identify the local emergency number 9-1-1 and discuss emergency plans and instructions.
  • Identify seven healthy behaviors while playing the "Stay Healthy" game presented in the coloring book.
