What was difficult, painful, or frustrating about your life before weight loss?

Other than the physical and emotional pain, the most frustrating part about life before the surgery was that I knew at my weight and physical condition, I could never achieve my dream of becoming a flight paramedic.

Why did you choose Centra Weight Loss Services for your bariatric care?

Dr. Alley and his team came highly recommend from a friend that went through his program. Also, being an employee of Centra, I am aware of the high standards that Dr. Alley and his team uphold and operate under.

What is something you’re most excited about or most proud of after losing weight?

I am proud of the amount of weight I have lost. However, it's the small things — the non-scale victories. It's getting on my ambulance for a shift knowing that I can now physically take care of my patients. I can work a code, and I can crawl in a ditch for a patient that is trapped from a vehicle accident. It's walking down the hall and noticing that something doesn’t feel right then realizing, “wait, my thighs aren't rubbing when I walk!”

Can you describe your comfort with the quality of care and the people caring for you, before, during, and after your surgery?

The care that I received before, during, and after surgery was simply amazing. Dr. Alley made me feel like I was his only patient. Dr. Ally found an unknown complication during surgery, and immediately fixed it. During the night of my surgery, Dr. Alley checked in on me every hour! During the pre-op liquid stage, I had several major events I attended where food was involved, and I almost caved and ate! I called the office, and his staff talked me through the craving.

What is the one thing you would share with someone who is just thinking about weight loss surgery for the first time?

You are worth it! Don’t listen to the negativity. Everyone's journey is different. Be selfish — do it for you and your health.
