Mental Health Conference

Monday, May 6, 2024    01:20 pm - 01:20 pm

You are invited to save the date for Centra Psychiatry and Behavioral Health's 1st Annual Mental Health Conference.

The conference will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Lynchburg General hospital. Sessions will run from 1-5 pm and are slated to include a welcome speech and a keynote speaker, as well as relevant break-out sessions covering topics around psychiatry and behavioral health, addiction and youth mental health.

Free CME/CEUs will be available. The conference is free to attend, however registration will be required.

The Mental Health Conference has been initiated, developed and designed in response to the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), which lists Mental Health services as the #1 area of need according to Lynchburg area stakeholders, Mental Health/Counseling services as the #2 hardest to find in our area according to community survey respondents, and Mental Health Problems as the #3 most important issue that affects health in our community.

Mental Health Statistics from the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment:

  • Our service area saw a +164% increase in use of mental health, alcohol or drug abuse services (46.5%) from the 2018 assessment (17.6%).
  • There is a 39% higher suicide rate for our service area (18.36) than what is average in Virginia (13.2).
  • There was a +267% increase in drug/alcohol problems for our service area (13.6%) compared to the 2018 Community Health Needs Assessment (3.7%)

We hope you will save the date and join us for this inaugural event. Please check back here for registration and the event agenda soon.
