Mission Moment by Lauren Byrum

When you don’t work in a patient-facing or clinical role, it can sometimes be difficult to connect your own work to Centra’s mission of “improving the health and quality of life for the communities we serve.” While I will never directly care for a patient in my role as the Communications & PR Specialist on Centra’s Marketing & Communications Team, I’ve realized over time how my work does play a part in improving the well-being of those who call central Virginia home.

For me, carrying out our mission looks like making sure the meaningful stories about Caregivers working across our system are told. I believe these stories serve as powerful reminders of why we’re all here while also helping us remember that we’re committed to the same mission, vision and values.

While every Caregiver has a unique role, we better understand our need for one another when we get to read encouraging and engaging stories about others on the Centra Team. By witnessing the dedication and hard work of others, we are inspired to push ourselves further and strive for excellence in our own work too.

As you read the stories that will fill Centra Today in 2024, I hope you are inspired by your fellow Caregivers and that you are reminded like me that we are only able, “to improve the health and quality of life for the communities we serve,” when we do it together.
