Neurosurgery

The Centra Neurosurgery Center leads the field in advanced surgery techniques by offering minimally invasive brain and spine surgery. Minimally invasive surgery techniques allow the surgeon to perform the procedure through a small incision, often just an inch or two in length. When compared to traditional surgery methods, minimally invasive surgery typically results in less pain for the patient, minimal scarring, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery.

Our convenient location in Lynchburg allows patients to see their neurosurgeon pre- and post-operatively closer to home.  Surgery, if needed, is performed at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. Whenever possible, minimally invasive techniques are utilized.

Centra Neuroscience Center provides treatment for:

  • Brain tumors
  • Herniated disks and pinched nerves
  • Spinal stenosis and compression
  • Carpal and ulnar nerve entrapment
  • Adult hydrocephalus
  • Aneurysms and arteriovenous malformation

NICU

The Neurosciences program at Centra is supported by our NICU (Neurological Intensive Care Unit), located in Lynchburg General Hospital. This unit is designed for patients requiring special nursing care and equipment for their recovery. Patients in the unit typically are recovering from head injuries, accidents, falls and other trauma, brain tumors, seizures, cerebral aneurysms or carotid endarterectomies.
