Centra Society Reception

When generous supporters gathered recently at a reception hosted by the Centra Foundation, they learned more about how philanthropic giving has transformed care for Centra patients and saved lives over the past three decades — and how it continues to make an impact.

“We’ve been talking a lot recently about how community support fueled the opening of Virginia’s first emPATH unit, an innovative model of care for behavioral health patients in crisis,” said Beth Doyle, executive vice president of the Centra Foundation. “But you may not know that donor support has provided many, many innovations over the past 30 years. On behalf of patients, we thank you for this generosity.”

Among the innovative firsts mentioned:

  • Centra’s first 3D breast imaging machine.
  • The first mobile mammography van.
  • Training for the first aortic valve replacement procedure.
  • The first neonatal ambulance.
  • Lynchburg General’s first robotic surgical system.

The evening featured special remarks from Centra CEO Amy Carrier about our health system, the impact of donors and the future. “It really is a celebration of your incredible generosity and the many things that we are able to achieve because of you,” she said.

The Centra Society Reception is an annual event held in appreciation of those who make cumulative gifts of $1,500 or more within the calendar year. This year’s event was held in November.

“We are fortunate to be in a community where so many care about health and our not-for-profit community healthcare system,” Beth said. “This year’s reception was especially meaningful and a wonderful part of our 30th anniversary celebrations.”
